A special group of representatives from the Sri Lanka-China Journalists’ Forum (SLCJF) visited the outgoing Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka Yang Xiuping, at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, in Colombo 7 recently.
The outgoing Ambassador has extended her service of nearly three years in Sri Lanka to strengthen diplomatic ties between the two friendly nations. During her time wide spread opportunities had also been granted for friendly associations and institutions of the two countries to work towards better bilateral relations.
At a time Sri Lanka is emerging as a forceful economic giant in the region, the assistance being received from China has further been increased to make the country fully developed both in socio and economic contexts symbolising the long stood true friendship and mutuality between the two countries.
Expressing views at the meeting the outgoing Ambassador Yang Xiuping stated that during her tenure she was fully dedicated to the cause of making stronger diplomatic relations between China and Sri Lanka which has received in return, a tremendous support from all parties engaged in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
“The support received from the media in Sri Lanka at many an occasion to rectify adverse reports published on China and to offer true information to make the public informed of the genuine assistance extended by China for the socio-economic development of the nations in the region was commendable,” she said.
She also commended the service extended by the publication ‘Mahajana Cheenaya’ (People’s China) of the SLCJF as an effective component launched to take the true picture of the socio-economic, cultural, educational, political and literal aspects as well as the ethnic harmony in China to the Sri Lankan readership.
The outgoing Ambassador also stated that she expected the same support of all China friendly associations in Sri Lanka to carryout the mission of the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka who will soon hand over duties in Colombo.
To felicitate the immense service rendered by Yang Xiuping to elevate stronger bilateral relations through diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and China a and as a token of good will for her immense assistance extended to the SLCJF in its activities to boost bilateral ties between the two countries, a special plaque was also handed over to her by SLCJF President Nalin Aponso as a token of good will.
SLCJF Secretary Saranga Wijeyarathne, SLCJF Treasurer Sudewa Hettiarachchi, SLCJF Assistant Secretary Duminda Sanjeewa Balasooriya SLCJF Chief Organiser Chamara Ranmandala were also present at the occasion.
