Singer CEO Asoka Pieris receiving the award
Since the inception of the SLIM-Nielsen People’s Awards in 2006, Singer has taken home the award for People’s Brand of the Year every single year. This year was no different, with the consumer durables giant earning the most prestigious accolade once again. The coveted prize is awarded to the country’s most favored brand across all industries, as selected by a cross-section of Sri Lankans drawn from every one of the island’s districts. The company also snagged the People’s Durable Brand of the Year and the People’s Youth Brand of the Year, effectively taking top prize in every category it was nominated in. These nominations were not submitted by Singer; instead, Sri Lankans from all walks of life were polled by Nielsen, the largest research company in the country, and given the power to select both nominees and award-winners. Singer CEO Asoka Pieris expressed his profound gratitude to the voters, saying: “Singer treasures the priceless relationships it has built with Sri Lankans from across the island.” On behalf of the company, he pledged his commitment to “continue to deliver trusted excellence to our countrymen and women.” Boasting an islandwide retail network of over 400 branches and up to 1,000 dealers, Singer is embedded in the heart of Sri Lankan life. As Marketing and Commercial Director for Singer, Mahesh Wijewardene puts it: “The Singer brand continues to win the People’s Awards year after year because it is the brand that is closest to the people, in terms of proximity as well as hearts and minds.” This relationship is founded not only on the strength of the company’s retail presence but also its dedication to giving all Sri Lankans the easiest access to enhanced standards of living. Through Singer’s multi-brand retail strategy, the company provides millions of Sri Lankans access to the largest selection of global brands under one roof. Over the past year alone, Singer has launched award-winning brands such as Sony, Sharp and Dell. Organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) and Nielsen, the People’s Awards test the most powerful brands in the country. With its unprecedented performance at this year’s edition of the event, Singer has proven itself to be the brand that most consistently fulfills the desires and wishes of Sri Lankans across the country.
