Leo Burnett Solutions Inc. (LBSI), the local office of the global advertising network Leo Burnett Worldwide, celebrated its 78th global anniversary under a central global theme ‘A Symphony of Music’ on 5 August 2013. With over 78 years of symphonic collaboration and talent, Leo Burnett agencies around the world celebrated the occasion under the global theme of music.
In Sri Lanka, the LBSI team gathered together to engage in a range of creative activities to bring the global theme to life. The invitation to the event was created according to the theme of the celebration and was a musical invite. Prior to the event, quotes from the company’s founder, Leo Burnett, were selected, and at the celebration, the team was surprised with the quotes being woven together to create the lyrics for a special anniversary song which was sung by some Burnetters to a music composition.
Other activities for the evening included musical chairs and an air guitar contest enabling Burnetters, both young and old, to show off their talents. The décor captured the many elements of music – music notes, treble clefs and CDs. The activities, décor and program were designed to illustrate that like a symphony, Leo Burnett is composed of people with different talents, which when brought together creates something wonderful and very memorable. The late Leo Burnett said: “It is this spirit (reaching for the stars) which I think has made many of us carry the thought of our work with us wherever we go, which makes us lay aside good work for better work.”
Speaking at the celebration, the company’s Managing Director Ranil de Silva further stated: “Here at Leo Burnett Sri Lanka, we strive towards adding value and strength to the culture, heritage and reputation of Leo Burnett Worldwide. Every day, we strive to deliver best in class work to help our clients meet with success with their every endeavour.
“Today, Leo Burnett offices from around the world celebrate this occasion under the global theme of ‘A Symphony of Music’ because we believe in genuine partnerships and are committed to fulfilling our roles and responsibilities to our clients, business partners and the industry at large because that is what Leo Burnett, the founder of this great agency, believed.”
These celebrations, which were simultaneously held around the world, recognised each individual for their efforts with an anniversary tradition which has been practiced for the last 78 years – an act in which every employee personally receives coins which count up to the anniversary number. This year, the Burnetters in Sri Lanka received 78 coins each in a beautifully crafted till in the shape of a bamboo flute. This annual celebration which takes place in every Burnett office around the world unites every Burnetter and demonstrates the company’s respect for tradition, human values and global unity. Leo Burnett is one of the world’s leading and most respected advertising networks, known for the creation of several world-famous brand icons such as the Marlboro Man and Tony the Tiger. The agency handles some of the world’s most prestigious brands such as Marlboro, Samsung, Kellogg’s, P&G, McDonalds and Heinz amongst many other leading global brands. Leo Burnett remains one of the most awarded agencies in the world. This year’s anniversary is undoubtedly another milestone for the agency as it represents 78 years of embracing new experiences and ideas inspired by humankind.
