Honoured for driving marketing in Sri Lanka

The Chartered Institute of Marketing celebrating their 100 years of developing the Marketing discipline worldwide honoured d top marketer and Daily FT guest Columnist Rohantha Athukorala for the outstanding contribution made to the country in the development of the professional Marketing fraternity of Sri Lanka at the at the Centenary Chartered Marketer investiture Ceremony at Colombo Hilton.

The Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), Chris Lenton graced the occasion with the Key Note address been delivered by British High Commissioner John Rankin.

Athukorala who in on many a national policy making boards driving country/sector Branding at global level in post war Sri Lanka, hosts a guest column branded ‘The Next Big Idea’ which is a sought after in the Daily FT business paper. He has produced 83 Sri Lankan prize winning students  for the Chartered Institute of Marketing(UK) and 2 world prize winners who are currently at Senior marketing positions in Sri Lanka and Globally. One of his students became the ‘Best Marketer’ in Scotland recently “

Commenting on the honour from the leading Marketing Institute Athukorala  said:  ‘I dedicate this award to the many students who came to me after failing there A/level examinations and today, they have completed their professional marketing examinations and hold key positions in brand/sales management in the private sector. This is more important to me, which I believe should be the National focus. Country and People before self.’ Athukorala is the Head of National Portfolio Development for Sri Lanka & Maldives in the United Nations(UNOPS) and is based in Sri Lanka.
