The Board of Directors of Splendor Media Ltd. yesterday announced the appointment of Govinda Tidball as the company’s Chief Executive Officer.
“His background and accomplishments to date are impressive. The entire board was unanimous in their selection of Govinda after his final interview,” Splendor Media Chairman and Hatton National Bank Deputy General Manager Chandula Abeywickrema said.
“With consistent growth and continued expansion, we recognised the need for a full-time Chief Executive. A decision was made by the Board to further invest in Splendor, which includes a new office strategically located in the heart of Colombo,” Abeywickrema added.
“Govinda joining Splendor concludes an eight month search for the right candidate. We are confident that he brings the unique balance of Sri Lankan culture and understanding, along with the international experience necessary to solidify our market position and take the agency to the next level. Moreover, we feel he has the talent and skill necessary to effectively reach strategic target audiences identified by the Directors,” the Splendor Media Chairman said.
Though based in Sri Lanka since completing his Masters Degree in Advertising in 2004 from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, Tidball routinely spent several months a year overseas as a consultant for a Forbes Fortune 100 organisation or British DEC agency Tearfund UK.
With local and international involvements in numerous business, development and charity sectors the question was posed to Tidball as to his most recent decision to accept the position as CEO of Splendor. “It was a personal decision to fully engage in Sri Lanka’s growth and development in this next season of life that brought me to Splendor,” he said.
“While I do have numerous commercial and personal interests, I can’t get away from the fact that advertising is in my blood. It is a unique privilege to have grown up with the founder of the nation’s advertising industry, Reggie Candappa, as my grandfather. I had an amazing young life learning firsthand what it took to build many of Sri Lanka’s leading brands. I am grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to putting my grandfather’s knowhow, my formal education and my cross-cutting experience to work on behalf of the clients, staff and shareholders of Splendor.
We have already begun a comprehensive upgrade of our facilities, technology and service offerings to give our agency a competitive advantage in the industry. It is going to be a great year for Splendor,” Tidball added.
