Former SLIM President wins Golden Globe at World Marketing Summit

Rohan Somawansa, a former President of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing, was recognised as one of the 50 Most Talented CMOs at the World Marketing Summit 2013. He was presented with the prestigious Golden Globe Tigers Award 2013 at a glittering ceremony at Putrajaya International Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur on 30 September. Somawansa served as the President of SLIM, the national body for marketing, in 2010/11. He is also a former Vice President of the Asian Marketing Federation, the governing body for Marketing in Asia, and is currently the General Manager, Sales & Marketing at D. Samson & Sons (DSI) Ltd. SLIM President Gamika De Silva commented on the value of this award. “I congratulate Mr. Somawansa on receiving such a prestigious award which was initiated by Marketing Guru Professor Phillip Kotler. This is a testament to his valuable contribution to the field of marketing in Sri Lanka.” SLIM CEO / Executive Director Sanath Senanayake congratulated Somawansa on behalf of SLIM. “It is a matter of immense pride for SLIM that a former President of the Institute has received an international award. I wish him more success and recognition in the years to come.” The World Marketing Summit (WMS) is an initiative of the world’s most influential marketer Professor Philip Kotler and is held annually with the objective of “Creating a Better World through Marketing”. The goal of WMS is to create global movements through marketing strategies that will serve to inspire change in human behaviour leading to a positive impact on society and living. The Golden Globe Tigers Awards recognise the professional marketers throughout the world who are engaged in an attempt to fulfil Prof. Phillip Kotler’s vision. Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) was founded in 1970 and subsequently incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1980. SLIM is a member of the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FCCISL) and Industry of Sri Lanka and the Federation of Marketing Research Industries (ESOMAR). SLIM also serves as an active member of the Board of Asia Marketing Federation (AMF) which is represented by seventeen member countries. SLIM is dedicated to establishing marketing as a driving force in the country in harnessing available marketing skills for the growth and development of the profession.
