The institute has campaigned for greater recognition and excellence in the marketing profession in Sri Lanka through education, training and development.
A few questions were raised from the student at the felicitation ceremony and the excerpts of the discussion are as follows:
Q: Why did you choose CIM for your professional development?
A:I actually chose to follow CIM as I had a passion for marketing. Though I decided to follow CIM, even then my core job was not related to marketing; yet I thought CIM would be a valuable qualification. At the same time, I would say that you don’t need to be marketing personnel to follow CIM, because marketing (at least internal marketing) is something that each individual would require to do their jobs effectively.
Q: What do you think of the content of the CIM course? Is the content relevant in today’s dynamic business environment?
A: I would say that it is highly relevant in today’s dynamic business environment; especially I think CIM’s decision to revise the syllabus is both timely and appropriate. Including the digital component of marketing (digital marketing and digital strategy) is a good example. I followed the Customer Experience path; but even this module is highly relevant to today’s context.
Q: Has the knowledge gained helped you to perform your job better?
A: Yes, it has enabled me to do my job effectively and efficiently.
Q: What do you think of the tutors?
A: I did CIM Stage 1 at SLIM, and I’m highly satisfied with the tutors. I’m especially thankful to Mr. Sylvester as I was able to score 100 marks for the subject he lectured. Also I wish to extend my thanks to Mathisha Hewavitharana and Udaya Shankar for guiding me to pass the assignment based modules of Stage 1.
Q: Would you recommend the CIM qualification to others?
A: Definitely; I would highly recommend it to both marketing and non-marketing professionals and to anyone who is passionate about Marketing.
