The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) and the new Project Committee for 2016 are making all preparations for its hallmark award show – the ‘SLIM-Nielsen Peoples’ Awards which will be held for the 10th consecutive year on 26 March at Waters Edge.
While being one of the most awaited and unique marketing events in the corporate calendar, the SLIM-Nielsen Peoples’ Awards stands out in significance as the public acts as the panel of judges that recognises brands and personalities that have made a profound impression in their minds. Nominees and awardees are chosen by the voice of the people of Sri Lanka through a comprehensive nationwide research conducted by Nielsen -Sri Lanka, one of the largest information and research companies in the world which provides market research expertise.
Toting to the excitement and anticipation of hosting the nation renowned SLIM-Nielsen Peoples’ Awards, the new project committee for 2016 is eager to bring an added essence of novelty to this year’s award ceremony as the SLIM-Nielsen Peoples’ Awards proudly reaches its 10th Year Anniversary Milestone. Consequently, the SLIM- Nielsen Peoples’ Awards 2016 will be held on a grandeur scale as the expertise of past project chair’s establish synergy for an outstanding event.
Remarking on this year’s Peoples’ Awards, SLIM President Ruwan Liyanagamage said, “The SLIM-Nielsen Peoples’ Awards is a medium which provides us with an opportunity to give recognition to brands and personalities that are best appreciated by the Sri Lankan people. Thus, it gives us great pleasure to be able to conduct one of the largest independent surveys in the country and we are happy to present a platform where marketers can hear the voice of the public as the brands and organisations can only grow by appealing to its consumers.”
He further added, “The SLIM-Nielsen Peoples’ Awards of 2016 is also a platform for us to appreciate and recognise the commitment and whole-hearted efforts put in by the founders 10 years ago to bring the SLIM-Nielsen Peoples’ Awards to the high pedestal that it stands on today.”
Roshan Fernando, the newly appointed Project Chairman for the year 2016 and the Head of Marketing for FM Derana said, “This most looked forward to event in the SLIM Calendar celebrates a decade of people power this year. A brainchild of SLIM, the SLIM Nielson Peoples’ Awards saw its inception in 2006 when initiated under the presidency of Nishan Navaratne, the leadership of Wasantha Mallikarachchi and the then project Chairman Rohan Somawansa.

The selection of the winners is based on a nationwide quantitative face to face independent survey covering males and females between the ages of 15 to 60, over a period of five months using a structured questionnaire. The survey covers all districts in the country including the North and East and will be conducted by trained interviewers from Nielsen, who will visit these districts using a random household selection process to select households in each street to be interviewed. Respondents will be asked to mention their favourite brands and personalities across various categories, with those receiving the highest nominations being declared as the winners.
