Reinforcing its commitment to constant development, Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), the national body for marketing has been certified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) covering all its operations, including branch operations in Kandy and Matara.
SLIM received the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 29990:2010 in recognition of its superior quality management systems and is one of the first organisations to obtain ISO 29990:2010 certification in Sri Lanka which is for Learning Service Providers (LSP), providing non formal education and training services. ISO 29990:2010 quality assurance standard enables to establish, implement, and maintain a management system which focuses on sustained management of design, delivery and evaluation of courses for its Learning Service Providers.
In addition, ISO 9001:2015 is an international standard for quality management systems, which demonstrates an organisation’s ability to consistently provide products and services which meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements while achieving excellence in customer service and delivery.
The certification was awarded as a result of the five-year plan of SLIM, long term stability and exemplary corporate governance, which were supplemented by initiatives such as the incorporation of quality systems into operational processes and creating a new quality culture within processes which drive high SLIM standards.
Commenting on the certifications, SLIM President Pradeep Edward noted that it symbolises the institute’s promise of delivering unmatched quality.
“We are delighted to have been awarded the ISO quality certifications, as it reiterates our constant assurance of quality across all our processes. We are grateful to Bureau Veritas Sri Lanka for carrying out a fair evaluation based on the required criteria.”
SLIM CEO/Executive Director Sanath Senanayake said that the certifications would support SLIM in its endeavour to develop world class marketers in Sri Lanka.
“SLIM recognises the need to provide regular high-quality services to our stakeholders in order to be effective in our journey of developing globally competitive marketing professionals. ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 29990:2010 provide us with the most current processes to provide high quality services to our students, lecturers, professional members and partners, and to improve these processes on a continuing basis according to market dynamics.”
These standards give serious consideration to the demands of today’s dynamic and globally interconnected world. Some of the key advancements include a greater emphasis on building a management system more aligned to each organisation’s particular needs, greater senior leadership involvement and accountability, alignment of quality with wider business strategy, and risk-based thinking and opportunity identification. There are also less prescriptive requirements for documentation and alignment with other key management system standards through the use of a common structure and core text.
The certifying authority for SLIM ISO 9001:2015/ and ISO 29990:2010 quality management system is the Bureau Veritas Sri Lanka and these certifications are bound to maintain and continually enhance SLIM’s high quality standards for years to come.
As the national body for Marketing in Sri Lanka, SLIM has been promoting marketing excellence and elevating the status of marketing since 1970. It is a member of the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), and is a member of the Board of Management of the Asia Marketing Federation, which is affiliated to the World Marketing Association.
