Dr. Dhammika Gunawardena, member of TMC – Kalutara was elected uncontested to the high office of District Governor of Lions Clubs International – District 306 A 1 (Sri Lanka) at the Annual District Convention held on 8 May at the Eagle’s Lakeside Banquet and Convention Hall, Attidiya.
He took his oaths and was installed on 28 June at the 99th Annual International Convention of Lions Clubs International, held in Fukuoka, Japan.
Dr. Gunawardena was educated at Ananda College, Colombo. He graduated as a medical practitioner from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya and obtained his post graduate diploma in Family Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. He counts almost 35 years in government service having worked in the capacity of Physician, Judicial Medical Officer and District Medical Officer attached to some of the leading hospitals in the island such as the Base Hospital Negombo, National Hospital Colombo, District Hospital Agalawatta, Colombo South Teaching Hospital and the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Colombo.
As the Lions District Governor 2016/2017 – the Centennial Year of International Lionism, Dr. Gunawardena has chosen as his theme: ‘Strengthen the District through Centennial Pride’ and his three point program for the year encompasses a wide range of activities in the areas of Administration, Management, Membership Development, Leadership Development, Service Programmes, Engaging Youth, Sharing Vision, Relieving Hunger, Protecting the Environment, Community Health and Care Services, Child Care Services, Education, Drugs and Aids awareness, Empowerment of Women, etc. The Management Club congratulates Lion Dr. Dhammika Gunawardena on his great achievement and conveys its best wishes in all his endeavours .
