Over 150 members, spouses and guests were present to celebrate the 12th anniversary on 18 Feb at the Park Premier Hall at Excel World in grand style, which commenced at 6:30 p.m., in the presence of the Chief Guest John Rankin the British High Commissioner, special guests, Country Officer IFC/World Bank Adam Sack and Hyatt Regency Colombo General Manager Diego Concha. The proceedings began with the MC Terence Wijesooriya calling upon the audience to stand for the National Anthems of Sri Lanka and Great Britain.
The President of the Board of Management, of The Management Club was invited to make his welcome address, during which he extended a warm welcome to all those present, and very specially thanked the High Commissioner, the special guests and invitees for their presence. He also thanked all the members and their spouses for having graced the occasion.
President Emeritus Fayaz Saleem was then called upon to make a power point presentation on the history of TMC, how it all began, the progress it had made over the years and the many challenges and obstacles the club had to overcome. He spoke of the need for members to get more involved with TMC. VP Board of Management and Chairperson ETD introduced the Chief Guest in a fitting manner.
The High Commissioner expressed his immense satisfaction at the work TMC was engaged in, and lauded the efforts of ETD and the programs that were carried out. He said he was indeed happy to have been associated with some of ETD programs in the recent past.
Deepal Abeysekera, presented awards in appreciation of services rendered by the executive committee of ETD, and two special awards, one of which went to Jezaya Hassenden for her dynamic stewardship of projects at ETD, and to VP Board of Management and Chairperson of ETD, Charmaine Vanderhoeven for her untiring and dedicated work towards the administration and Activities of TMC, and above all for her excellent leadership of ETD.
The evenings proceedings came to a close with the Vote of thanks by VP BOM, Nasser Majeed. Cocktails, fellowship and music ensured those present an enjoyable evening of camaraderie.
