The Management Club – Kalutara has once again displayed synergy by joining hands with The Institute of Management of Sri Lanka, The Sri Lanka German Friendship Society and the Sri Lanka Foundation in organising an Evening Presentation on ‘Managing People by Executing Different Strategies’ by Thushara Perera, Group Director – Marketing and Sales for TV Derana, FM Derana, Derana Macro Entertainments (Digital) and Ada Derana 24 x 7 News Channel, which was conducted on 15 September at the Sri Lanka Foundation.
Thushara Perera, who is a dynamic trainer and motivator, commenced his presentation by quoting the Lord Buddha: ‘One Who Conquers the Mind Conquers the World’ and he went on to quote Jesus Christ: ‘Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Unto You’.
With these inspiring quotes he elaborated on Balance in Managing Employees – Emotional Vs. Rational and said that it is an essential phenomenon to select the right people for a job and he also outlined ‘How to Select People’.
Moving on to managing employees, he explained that one should always reward fully or punish fully – it should not be half baked, he said, emphasising on the many types of rewards that could be offered to employees in the context of emotional rewards and financial rewards which would motivate them. He also explained: How to motivate different people with different approaches – Challenging challenges in motivating people, etc., to ensure greater results.
Brain storming sessions was another aspect that he emphasised on, which he said was very effective since it provided a forum through which good ideas could evolve. This forum he said, could also serve to scan the strengths and weaknesses of the employees. In conclusion, he mentioned that there should always be a firm, friendly and fair approach towards the employee which would indeed ensure maximum productivity.
The President of the Institute of Management of Sri Lanka, Maj Gen Upul Perera, speaking on this occasion, gave a brief of the IMSL and stated that the ‘National Management Conference’ which is an annual event conducted by the Institute of Management of Sri Lanka will be held this year, on Tuesday, 29 September at the Grand Ballroom of the Galadari Hotel in Colombo, which is also the Host hotel of The Management Club.
The NMC – 2015, which will take the form of three sessions, will bring together management practitioners, professionals, academics, students and leaders from the public and corporate sector to a common platform of sharing and learning, through the conference theme: ‘Good Governance: Challenges and Strategies’.
Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremasinghe will be the Chief Guest and deliver the keynote address whilst Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Morhard Jurgen will be the Guest of Honour. Further, the panellists will consist of eminent personalities and academics.
