Melanie Stephens: A lady of courage

Melani lost her sight halfway through her life, due to medical negligence. Being sight impaired, has been challenged right through her life. However her determination and courage took her through her life of education and then her career. She has worked for some reputable organisations as a telephone operator/Junior Executive. Melanie says she can remember over 3,000 odd telephone numbers, she does not need a directory, she also uses her mobile telephone to record unfamiliar numbers, and she has an excellent memory for voices.

Melani has showed exceptional talent and never knew the words fail; she was always challenged by her situation, and came out victorious. Having had many pitfalls in life due to her affliction, keeping her job and hanging on to it even when there were times she wanted to throw in the towel, or commit suicide was challenging. She was a lady who had no financial support whatsoever except her job, and living alone she depended on herself for the basic necessities. However Melanie was always well-dressed, loved to be with people, was a very interactive personality and managed to go through life the hard way but with a positive attitude. Melanie’s life has been hard and as a single woman she has faced many obstacles in her life, but she believes the harder it gets, God takes care of her and shows her the way. Her immense faith is her strength Finally when she was made redundant from her present job, any other person in her situation would have fallen down into depression or destitution. However Melanie decided that when one door closes another has to open, so she has decided to talk to the public on motivation, what kept her motivated, with all these experiences behind her she has gone to a great length with the help of philanthropists to write a book on motivation. She launched this book on 5 April at a ceremony of dignitaries and friends this book gives an insight into what has kept Melanie afloat when the world around her was crumbling; she intends giving motivational speeches to institutions and places that may need to take her life as an example that failure is only in yourself, Every tunnel has a light at the end and she believes this is only the beginning of a long road for her to travel. We at ETD wish Melanie all the best in her chosen field and encourage those people with setback to take an example of this lone girl who fought her battles on her own and survived. It’s a true example of courage and determination.
