The Institute of Lean Management (ILM) Awards Ceremony 2017 was held on 27 June at Galadari Hotel with the participation of Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM).
There are more 100 students representing 40 companies in Sri Lanka and overseas who successfully completed TPM Lean Green Belt Certificate Courses and lean Certified HR Professional Certificate Course received their certificates at the ceremony. TPM Practitioner Certificate and Lean Practitioner Green Belt Course are the most popular and well excepted productivity improvement training programs in Sri Lanka since 2009.
CBL Foods International Ltd. Director and CEO Samitha Perera was the Chief Guest, and Japan Institute of Plant Management (JIPM) Deputy Secretary General Jun Onoda and Institute of Lean Management Director Studies Yukio Ando graced the occasion as Guests of Honour.
ILM is a leading institute in Sri Lanka introducing world class best practices and producing world class manufacturing leaders, technical professionals, Advance 5S instructors, TPM Practitioners, Lean Practitioners, change agents and waste watchers. Nearly 40,000 professionals followed ILM public seminars, workshops and in house training related to Lean Management, Total Productive Maintenance and Management (TPM), and Toyota Production System (TPS). It has produced over 1,500 TPM and Lean Practitioners since 2009.
More than 300 leading organisations have invested in ILM services to develop their processes and human resources. ILM faculty is enriching with expert trainers and consultants from Japan who have served for Toyota Motor Corporation and Sri Lankan university academic staff and industrial and service professionals. ILM is collaborated and affiliated with Hirayama Corporation (TPS experts), Japan and closely working with Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) the TPM certification body in the world. ILM provides an opportunity to industrial professionals in Sri Lanka to visit leading Japanese industries to benchmark best practices and also provides training in Japan.
Onoda made a presentation on TPM Outline, Global TPM trend and JIPM Certification and highlighted the long term relationship of Institute of Lean Management with JIPM to promote TPM in Sri Lanka.
Institute of Lean Management CEO Thilak Pushpakumara said: “We can’t do today’s job with yesterday’s method and be in the business tomorrow. Continuous development of skill and competency is highly important for survival. TPM and Lean start with training and end with training. Not with the certifications.” He also mentioned the recognition for the ILM certification among leading Sri Lankan industries.
Perera explained the importance of the skills and the competency and adopting new methods in today’s business world for survival. He added: “The skills and competency you have today is sufficient only for today. Not for tomorrow. Industries should hire competency, not qualifications.”
