Experts on integrated reporting to address Global Management Accounting Summit 2015

Comprehensive insights on the timely topic of Integrated Reporting are in store for the participants of the Global Management Accounting Summit 2015 with its technical sessions set to feature top international speakers. This is the first time that Integrated Reporting is been discussed in details over two days which will add value to the Annual Reports of all quoted and non-quoted companies by presentation of global experts. 

This will enable Sri Lankan companies to develop their Annual Reports according to the concepts of Integrated Reporting providing a concise report which will greatly benefit investors and all stakeholders. Considering the importance of the summit the keynote speaker will be International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) President Olivia Kirtley representing 2.8 million accountants globally in 130 countries with 175 members and the presentation on Integrated Reporting by Michael Nugent the Technical Director of the Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) the Global Authority responsible for establishing Integrated Reporting and Thinking within mainstream business practice as a norm in the public and private sectors. 

IIRC in 2013 introduced the International Integrated Reporting Framework to help businesses produce an Integrated Report which will be explained and discussed in detail at the summit.   

The summit, an annual event hosted by CMA Sri Lanka will be inaugurated on 27 July and will have its technical sessions taking place over two days from 28 to 29 July respectively. The three day seminar will be held under the theme ‘Business Resilience through Integrated Reporting’. 

While the inauguration will take place on the 27 July, the technical sessions will comprehensively discuss over 16 topics on Integrated Reporting and will take place over two days from 28 to 29 July respectively.

While the technical session day one will feature seven renowned professionals deliberate on topics such as ‘Integrated Thinking, Integrated Reporting, role of IFAC in Accountability and Governance’, ‘Integrated Thinking as a basic platform of Resilient Business Models’, ‘The complete Architecture of the Integrated Reporting and its Current State of Evolution’, ‘Primer on the Accountants Connect with Integrated Thinking and Reporting’, ‘Building Blocks of Integrated Reporting’, ‘GRI and Sustainability Reporting to Migrate to Integrated Reporting’, and ‘Integrated Reporting – Getting Started’; the day two will also have key insights shared on similar topics that are imperative for today’s business and financial landscape. 

The second day of the technical sessions and the final day of the summit will open with Head Department of Accounting National University of Singapore (NUS) Prof. Ho Yew Kee giving a comprehensive address on ‘Development of Integrated Reporting in Asia’, which will be followed by Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development India Director Sachin Joshi speaking on ‘The Indian Journey on Integrated Reporting through IR Lab India’. 

Jointly addressing the topic ‘Diffusion of Integrated Reporting in the Sri Lankan Context’ will be University of Sri Jayewardenepura Department of Accounting Professor Samanthi Senaratne and Lecturer Nuwan Gunarathne. 

Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. Corporate Quality Assurance General Manager Dr. Joydeep Chatterjee and Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG) President Fuad Hashimi will share their views on ‘Experiences of Corporates on  Implementing Integrated Reporting’, and ‘Taking Integrated Reporting Forward in Pakistan’, while ACCA Head of Policy Arif Mirza will speak on ACCA’s own Integrated Reporting Journey.

The pertinent topic of ‘Corporate Governance and Responsible Boards’ will be deliberated by IMA Abu Dhabi Chapter Vice President Communication Basel Omar Abu-Ali. 

Furthermore, PwC Malaysia Assurance Services Executive Director and representative of Malaysian Institute of Accountants Richard Bedlow will talk on ‘Strategy, Resilient Business models and Integrated Reporting’, and sharing the Lankan ways of doing things will be John Keells Group Head of Sustainability and Enterprise Risk Management Chulendra De Silva who will speak on topic ‘Sustainability frameworks and trending them to IR’.    

The three day conference will be brought to a close with a 90 minute panel discussion on the topic ‘Business Success and Value Creation through Integrated Reporting’. 

Moderated by A.N. Raman, panel members will be Russell Guthrie (IFAC), Michael Nugent (IIRC), Dr. Aditi Haldar (GRI India), Graham Terry (Strategy and Integrated Thinking), Suresh Guneratne (DIMO), Prof. Ho Yew Kee (NUS) and Dr. Joydeep Chatterjee (Kirloskar Brothers Ltd.).

The three day summit is supported by the International Federation of Accountants, International Integrated Reporting Council and Global Reporting Initiative, and is co-hosted by the Institute of Management Accountants of USA, Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Institute of Management Accountants Pakistan and Institute of Management Accountants Bangladesh. This is a rare professional experience for directors, CFOs, management accountants, senior managers, managers, executives and accountants of Sri Lankan companies to become leaders in Integrated Reporting.
