Cornell Professor Mike Hostetler to lead Strategic Leadership Program in Colombo

Professor Mike Hostetler of the Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management will lead a three day Strategic Leadership Certificate Program for directors, top and senior managers in Colombo on 10/11/12 August at the JAIC Hilton. This follows two highly successful programs in Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia.

Cornell University in New York, part of the Ivy League, is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the world. The Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management is among the top five Ivy League business schools in the USA.

Professor Hostetler’s main research and teaching interests are in strategy, decision-making, leadership, high performance teams and change management. He has taught classes in the MBA program, Executive MBA program and the Cornell-Queen’s EMBA program (New York), as well as many non-degree executive education programs. 

Professor Hostetler is also the author of on-line courses in strategic thinking, scenario planning, leadership, and team effectiveness. These programs have been used by corporations around the world to enhance their executive education programs, including IBM, CSC, AP Moeller Maersk, the US Navy, Delta Hotels and Resorts, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police among many others.

He is also involved in the development of custom executive programs at the Johnson School, and has designed programs for a variety of international companies including Siemens, Citigroup, the Oxford University Press, Areva, Sara Lee, Johnson & Johnson, Bausch and Lomb, Glaxo Smith Klein, Hyundai, United Technologies, the Asian Development Bank, LIG, Plansee, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Samsung, Philip Morris, G4S, and the Schwan Food Co. 

Hostetler also consults with private and non-profit organisations, both domestically and internationally. In particular, he works frequently in the health care, financial services and manufacturing industries. Recent clients include the Lehigh Valley Health Network, the Community Health Foundation of Buffalo, New York, the P2 Collaborative of Western New York, Northern Trust, Driscoll’s, Philip Morris International, Nunasi Corp., and Victaulic Co. Professor Hostetler has also designed and taught a number of executive development programs and strategy consulting projects in Asia, including the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and mainland China. In Hong Kong, he leads an ongoing program for top management in Strategic Leadership organised by the Hong Kong Management Association. Hostetler also teaches in the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology/Cornell University Program in Saudi Arabia.

As Associate Dean at the Johnson School from1992-2003, he had P&L responsibilities for managing all public and custom executive programs. In addition, he launched and managed the Johnson School’s Executive MBA program during its first two years of operation and served on the committee that developed the Cornell-Queen’s EMBA Program. 

Prior to joining Cornell University, Hostetler was Assistant Dean for Executive Education at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. His prior experience also includes positions with St. Mary’s Medical Centre, the University of Tennessee, and the Office of the Governor of Kentucky. Hostetler is an emeritus trustee of the International University Consortium for Executive Education

In Colombo, Professor Hostetler will deliver a customised and experiential learning program intended for directors, senior managers and other leaders with substantial P and L responsibility. The program ‘Strategic Leadership’ focuses on enhancing a leader’s capability to think strategically about their business and deliver additional value to the organisation through new strategic thinking. The three-day program would focus on the following:
