Challenging market insights for management practitioners

The Management Club – Kalutara, jointly with the Institute of Management of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Foundation displayed by Synergy conducted an Evening Presentation in their Public Lecture Series – ‘The Way Forward’, on Thursday, 4 September at the Sri Lanka Foundation, featuring that versatile personality, G.S. Sylvester, Marketing Director of Pan Audio Ltd. Elaborating on the theme of the presentation ‘Challenging Market Insights for Management Practitioners’, he emphasised on the fundamentals of marketing since, he said that many organisations are not following the basics in marketing. He stressed on the importance of achieving organisational goals by understanding the target markets, delivering the desired satisfaction and the need to do better than one’s competitors. He spoke on the shift from transaction based marketing to relationship marketing and highlighted its benefits, marketing strategies, etc., sighting examples. Outlining the importance of team work he underlined that every single employee of the organisation should be aware and take responsibility in all aspects, in order to create and ensure customer delight. Sylvester also spoke on adopting to change, in order to keep pace with the fast growing competitive market through a shift from Interruption Marketing to Permission Marketing which he explained in detail including permission marketing through social media, to promote brand awareness, networking, obtain customer feedback, etc., since Sri Lankan statistics showed that over 84% get updates through the social media. This impressive presentation which was highly informative and interactive attracted a large number of participants, which was very encouraging. The Public Lecture Series organised by IMSL and TMC in collaboration with the SLF, is a part of their education and knowledge development program, aimed at sharing and developing best practices in management and issues of contemporary and timely interest. This is an ongoing program which is held regularly, with leading personalities from the corporate world sharing their knowledge and experience.
