The Mobility International USA (MIUSA) published a book titled ‘Brilliant & Resilient’ with articles and photographs of 50 women leaders with disabilities in the world. One article was about Manique Guneratne an ETD Dirijaya Award winner for Professional Achievement.
Manique has often being recognised for her achievements in assisting disabled persons in various ways, a lady that is highly educated, active and currently works for The Employees Federation of Ceylon.
Manique is a great lady in her own right and although being vision impaired she does not take a back seat when it comes to getting involved in activities both locally and overseas for disabled persons.
Manique holds the following positions in various associations, and has been invited to several countries to participate in their forums:
Executive committee Member – DAISY Lanka Foundation
Executive Committee Member – Asian blind Union
Honoured Member – Advisory Board, International Solidarity Fund (World Assembly for Women with Disabilities – Korea)
Vice Chair Person – South Asian Disability Forum
Assistant Secretary – Disability Organisations’ Joint Front
Board Member – Visually Handicapped Trust Fund of Ministry of Social Services
Secretary – Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped
Resource Person to Train, Promote & Develop Information & Communication Technology for Visually Impaired Persons
Junior Executive – The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon
We should be proud to have such a great Sri Lankan lady in our society who has proven beyond doubt that nothing is impossible if only you try. Her vision impairment has not held her back in achieving her goals and we are confident she will go on to greater heights in the future and we wish her all the best in all her endeavours.
