‘Sri Lanka in crisis – The ramifications and implications’ under ‘The way forward’ series of events organised by The Management Club (TMC) – Colombo Chapter, was held on Tuesday 12 July at 6 p.m. at Hotel Galadari, Colombo. Over 50 participants including TMC members and their guests were in attendance.
The resource person was Dr. Harsha de Silva – an economist and a Member of Parliament for the Colombo District. He was a former Non-Cabinet Minister of Economic Reforms and Public Distribution; State Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs; and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The welcome address was delivered by The Management Club Emeritus President Fayaz Saleem. He mentioned during his address that the topic for the day is relevant and timely when the country is going through many economic challenges and hardships with Dr. Harsha de Silva playing a pivotal role addressing some of these at a national level.
Dr. Harsha de Silva’s presentation covered in detail the current economic crisis in the country, reasons, options available to overcome and the practical challenges envisaged in implementation. The comprehensive presentation gave a lot of insights and knowledge pertaining to the current predicament of Sri Lanka to the attendees at the event.
Dr. Pradeep Edward, Chairman of The Management Club Colombo and Managing Director of Hemas Hospitals stated that TMC Colombo is quite sensitive of how the current economic crisis in the country is adversely affecting the people of Sri Lanka as well as the TMC membership and as such, appropriate events of this nature will be organised to address the concerns and suggestions of the members.
A live and meaningful Q&A session was held where the participants got the opportunity of expressing their concerns and suggestions. The session ended with refreshments and a fellowship.
