TMC Wattala goes dairy

For a fledgling TMC outreach, the COVID-19 pandemic stifled for a while the enthusiastic membership that came together at Wattala to take the management philosophy that TMC stands for to the outer fringes of greater Colombo. Even as a new leadership emerged the constraints on movement and the restrictions across districts made it difficult for members to meet at the Pegasus Reef, the TMC Wattala host hotel.

But not for long! Since October, as most TMC groups have done, Wattala too has resorted to meet virtually, drawing its members into a series of valuable deliberations that is indicative of the adage, ‘if there is a will, there is a way’! With a whole bunch of management people in its ranks, on Friday 20 November they opted to listen to a presentation on the dairy industry delivered on zoom by Lanka Milk Foods CEO Manjula Dahanayake.

An opportune moment indeed with the Budget Speech by the Prime Minister under his wing, expounding the Government stance on dairy, offering new and investment incentives to Sri Lankan entrepreneurs to take a closer look at a century-long traditional occupation in Sri Lanka. Import substitution is a priority for the Government and the thoughts and directions outlined by Manjula will go a long way in promoting another frontier that Sri Lanka needs to proactively pursue and progress in the days to come.

TMC Wattala Chair Geethal Anthony welcomes all TMC members to join this series of webinars: “The dairy industry is a good start,” he quipped. “There is more to come in the following months!”
