Knowledge in cyber security amongst non-IT managers is becoming extremely important today and will become inevitable tomorrow. Those who fail to understand the importance of this will lag behind in their career advancement.
Companies where corporate management and the senior management failed to understand cyber threats and mitigation tactics at management level may cause irreparable damage to businesses irrespective of the industry they work in. This doesn’t mean they need to learn the technical aspects related to technology or cyber security. However, it is important for them to have a fair knowledge which is essential to make decisions. Decisions that may affect their business and brand value.
Technology has become part of our lives changing the way we live, learn, play or work. Specially with the current pandemic everyone from kids to adults were forced to use technology in one form or the other. Kids use technology to study and play; adults use it to carry out their official work and also for household things as well. Senior citizens who are not engaged in any of those began to use technology to read or even to order their medicines online.
With the pandemic, usage of technology increased tremendously changing how we do things in day-to-day life. With this new way of doing things using technology there are two main areas of focus. We started working from home, while having a cup of coffee accessing important data and sharing all your work and communications online via internet. Some companies have seen this as a way of increasing productivity and reduce overheads. Employees were able cut down travel time and fuel costs. If you look at ordinary employees, they were also able to reduce their spending.
However, some gaps in the telecommunication infrastructure and unprecedented demand for data made a huge challenge for companies. While we are carrying out our day-to-day matters remotely in the comfort of our home, the increased use of sharing data and communication online posed a serious security challenge. Some are aware of this danger and unfortunately some are clueless and believe they are in a secured world. Especially corporate and senior management should be aware of the dangers that may cause damages at individual level and at corporate level.
Having understood this knowledge gap, TMC Mt. Lavinia decided to conduct a special knowledge-sharing program designed for managers to understand the cyber threats and how they could work with their IT and security teams to mitigate it. In this regard, virtual interactive sessions will be organised by TMC Mt. Lavinia for its members and guests in the month of May. There will be five sessions conducted from 7:30-9:30 p.m. and at the end of the program a certificate also will be awarded to participants.
Topics covered in these sessions are:
Need for Cyber Security
Attacks, Concepts and Techniques
Protecting your Data and Privacy
Protecting the organisation
Legal and Ethical issues in Cyber Security
Investing in Detection, Prevention and Forensics
