The CMA Global Management Accounting Conference 2018 on the theme ‘Integrated Reporting – Future of Corporate Reporting’ will be held on 5 July at Cinnamon Lakeside. The keynote speaker at the conference will be Rachael Grimes, President of the International Federation of Accountants, the global body for the accounting profession.

The inaugural session will be on ‘Integrated Reporting and Value Creation’ and the President of IFAC will speak on the topic ‘Professional Accountants as Business Partners and Value Creators’. IFAC supports high-quality practices in Integrated Reporting and identify priority areas of focus for the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) and IFAC.

Professional accountants in business play a major role in driving companies towards growth, sustainability, profitability while serving the public interest. The role of the professional accountant in Government and State corporations and State-owned companies and the adoption of Integrated Reporting for highlighting value creation will enable these institutions to justify their role towards society.

The President of IFAC will be joined by eminent speakers such as Prof. Ho Yew Kee, formerly the Professor in Accounting at the National University of Singapore and currently Professor in Accounting Singapore Institute of Technology given the responsibility to retrain Singaporean employees to meet the new challenges in employment due to rapidly changing global technological changes.

This will be of great importance to Sri Lanka considering the expansion of the Colombo and Hambantota Ports and improving efficiency and productivity to be a major destination in the global maritime industry.

It is also a must for major loss-making State corporations and companies causing severe burden to the Treasury and the public of Sri Lanka in order that the process and lessons of Maritime Authority of Singapore will enable them to go in the right direction.

Speaking for the management accountants, A.N. Raman, an Advisory Council Member of CMA and Past President of SAFA, on ‘Key Enabling Role of Cost and Management Accounting (CMA) in Integrated Thinking and Reporting,’ will stress on the importance of Professional Accountants in Business (PAIB) which includes the management accountants who are directly responsible for the creation of value through integrated thinking and reporting compared to professional accountants in practice undertaking the audit function after the event.

This session will also have a panel discussion moderated by HNB Chairman and Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs Advisor Dinesh Weerakkody with Presidents of the Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, Cost and Management Accountants of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan serving as panellists.
