The team at ACCA and SLID at the MOU signing
Recognising the value of offering initiatives for the advancement of their respective members to engage in and gain opportunities for further growth, ACCA (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) recently signed an MOU with the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID).
The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors was initially launched to serve the corporate needs of the current and future directors both in the private and public sector organisations and still continue to be the authoritative focal point on boardroom governance in Sri Lanka.
ACCA, as the global body for professional accountants has always believed that accountants bring value to economies in all stages of development and seek to develop capacity in the profession and encourage the adoption of global standards. As such, ACCA believes in initiating synergies that will add value and create new opportunities for both their members and students.
Hence, the recent MOU signed entails in both ACCA and SLID engaging in learning and development activities and work collaboratively to offer opportunities amongst the members of both associations and capacity building initiatives.
ACCA Sri Lanka Head stated: “ACCA Sri Lanka is very happy to collaborate with SLID who holds a unique position as stewards of working with public and private companies to maintain professionalism, governance and ethics in the boardroom, all of which are ideals that ACCA has always inculcated in their members and students. Therefore we’re delighted to be working with SLID through this MOU and look forward to our future collaborations together.”
SLID Chairman Rasakantha Rasiah endorsed: “We are delighted to partner ACCA as our goals are complementary. We propagate corporate governance and train directors and ‘would be’ directors while ACCA trains school leavers and graduates in professional accountancy, which is a stepping stone to board positions. This symbolic partnership would be of immense help to both institutes to update methodology of training to keep abreast of the rapidly advancing business world which also provides a complete spectrum of training from post school leaving to board positions in organisations.”
ACCA supports both public and private sectors and the current MOU with SLID is a part of ACCA’s initiatives in building a sustainable profession amongst businesses in the country and to develop the profession for the next generation.
