Sri Lanka, Bhutan sign MoU to enhance bilateral relations

Sri Lanka and Bhutan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday following bilateral discussions between President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister of Bhutan Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo. The two leaders presided over the signing ceremony of the MoU between the two countries. The MoU seeks to establish a mechanism at the Foreign Secretaries’ level to hold consultations on an annual basis, alternately in Colombo and Thimphu and exchange views on bilateral matters and on regional and international issues of mutual interest. In addition, the MoU provides for establishing expert and working groups for consultations of specific issues by mutual consent of the parties, the President’s Media said. Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chitranganee Wagiswara signed the MoU for the Sri Lankan Government, while the Acting Foreign Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bhutan Ambassador Sonam T. Rabgye signed the agreement for Bhutanese Government.
