President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday urged the public not to be misled by false propaganda and also expressed confidence in winning the next election. Speaking at two separate events, the President said that some foreign powers are attempting to destabilise the country by spreading false allegations. The President said that he has faith in the public and urged them to support him like before. Speaking in Tamil at one event, the President said that no matter what happens and what some may say he will always protect the public. “I am your protector. You can trust me. I trust you,” he stressed. The President said that in 2005 when he contested the election the public asked him to ensure a respectable peace and he gave just that. Today, he says, foreign powers are attempting to make Sri Lanka like Iraq and Libya and have someone they can control as the leader in Sri Lanka and they are ready to spend to achieve that goal.
