While commending the process undertaken by the new Sri Lankan Government, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang reiterated his and his Government’s fullest cooperation towards it. The Chinese Premier said his Government’s decisions did not depend on individuals but on correct policies which are important to national economies. Prime Minister Keqiang made these comments during a meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday. President Sirisena said that it was the hope of the Sri Lankan Government that age-old bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and China be strengthened further. The assistance extended to Sri Lanka by China to defeat terrorism was enormous and it made relations between the two countries more friendly and honourable. President Sirisena pointed out that the country had come forward during the past three months and said he intended to carry forward the country in an incorrupt and more transparent manner. Sri Lanka expects further assistance from the Chinese Government and its investors for national development, the President said, adding that his Government was ready to enhance relations with China. The Asia should also be economically, politically and socially powerful and effective like the European Union, the President pointed out while emphasising the importance of having a proper development plan in the region. The two leaders also discussed the importance of working together to eradicate poverty in Asia. They also discussed at length the need to have a pragmatic economic and investment plan among South Asian countries.
