The largest trade exhibition of its kind in South Asia, the 9th edition of the Hotel Show, a display for Sri Lanka’s hospitality and partner industries and organised by the Ceylon School Graduates Association (CHSGA) together with Lanka Exhibition and Conference Services, was declared open by Minster of Economic Development, Basil Rajapaksa yesterday at the BMICH. Over 280 exhibitors from the industry, including technology, laundry, air conditioning, hygiene, and catering, architecture, gardening, landscaping, outdoor furniture, swimming pools, waste management, software systems and modern security systems, with a wide array of hotel supplies, were gathered to showcase their portfolios. President of the Ceylon Hotel School Graduates Association, Eksath Wijerathne, said that since its commencement in 1996, the Hotel Show has improved in its quality to today become the best Hotel Show in South Asia. Describing some competitions to be held during the event, he explained that these events will help to show the skill development of the local industry to the world. In addition, a student counter, managed by the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM), will be dedicated to providing career guidance at the event. President of the Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka, Jayantissa Kehelpannala said: “We don’t face monetary difficulties in the industry but the issue is finding the necessary technology and equipment for the industry. So the Hotel Show exhibition will be a platform to interact with key hospitality and overcome those difficulties.” The event is been supported and sponsored by Abans as the Diamond Sponsor, Lanlo as a Platinum Sponsor, Abdul Rahims, Promo Lanka together with Euro Kitchens, Sperry’s and Arpico as Gold Sponsors, Pragmatic International, Lavazza and John Keels Office Automation as Silver Sponsors, and the BMICH as the official venue provider, which emphasises the commitment all suppliers have to upgrade the country’s booming tourism industry. The exhibition will be showcased up to 15 June at the BMICH.
