The Wildlife and Nature Protection Society has organised ‘The Wetland Walk 2016,’ an environmental awareness day for children.
This event will feature field excursions and knowledge development activities for children aged five to 12 years regarding urban wetlands, its importance and biodiversity. It is conducted with support of the Young Zoologists’ Association (YZA) and selected field researchers on flora and fauna.
In addition a workshop for teachers from schools in the Western Province and journalists is also planned for the same date. This is to enhance the appreciation of these unique habitats, conservation challenges and discuss platforms in which children could be encouraged to be more environmentally conscious.
Date: 22 December. Time: 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Venue: Wetland Park in Thalawathugoda.
