Vesak which marks the birth, enlightenment and the Parinirvana of the Buddha, was commemorated at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London with a Pirith chanting ceremony on 9 May followed by a Heel Daana the following day.
Ven. Bogoda Seelawimala Nayaka Thero, Chief Sanganayake of Great Britain presided over the religious ceremonies. Buddhist monks representing all the Sri Lankan Buddhist temples in the UK participated at the event while many members of the Sri Lankan community living in and around London were present at the Vesak celebrations.
