The Saints are back again for their annual concert with an entertaining and sparkling repertoire of songs from the 50s to the 70s and beyond and aptly titled ‘Those were the Days.’
Ballads, love songs, music from the movies – it’s retro pop at its best with a wonderful selection and exciting arrangements from the Temptations, Boyz11Men, Beatles, Beach Boys to number one hits made popular by artistes such as Englebert, Ricky Nelson, Bryan Adams, Sting and many more, performed in close harmony to bring out the finest in pop choral singing.
The Saints have reintroduced the Sinhala songs segment this year by popular request, with beautiful renditions made famous by singers like Pandith Amaradeva, Rukantha and Surendra Perera to add lustre to their concert in addition to the sing-a- along with the audience, from an excellent collection of songs by Gentlemen Jim.
Providing excellent backing to the Saints and adding a touch of class are Christo Prins on drums, Revel Crake on guitar, Basil Paiva on bass and the accomplished Dayadhree Jayasuriya de Silva on piano, that gives the cutting edge to what will be another exceptional performance by the group.
Suren Abeysekera and Priyanke Perera in unison are tasked with the duties of training and conducting a talented and committed set of guys, who are passionate about their singing and stage presentation.
The concert will be held tomorrow and the box plan and tickets priced at Rs. 1,000, Rs. 700 and Rs. 300 (balcony) are available at the Lionel Wendt.
The event is a must for all music lovers of retro pop.
