Sunquick Mocktail Competition a huge success

Sunquick partnered with Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management (SLITHM) to conduct the Mocktail Competition with the particaption of the students of the Colombo Hotel School and the provincial schools. The contestants showcased the talents under two categories – Classical Innovative Mocktail and Flaring Mocktail.  The uniqueness of the competition was that each and every competitor prepared the mocktail with Sunquick as the base ingredient. Describing the project as “a new learning process for Sunquick fans,” C.W. Mackie PLC Marketing Manager  Duminda Kotalawala said the company was happy to partner with the National Hotel School for the project at a time when the tourism industry is enjoying a massive growth resulting from post-war optimism, increase in investor confidence and tourist arrivals. Rukshan Ilangarathna – 2nd Runner up (Kandy)" “Sunquick is a global brand available in more than 120 countries worldwide, and is continuously, going through diverse learning processes on different applications of the brand.  I am sure all the contestants of the Mocktail Competition have come up with innovative recipes and multiple applications of the brand,” he said at the final award ceremony at the National Hotel School Auditorium. He pointed out that the competition was useful to improve the skills, innovation and sharing ideas amongst students. The first round of the competition was held at their respective provincial schools in mid-March over two days. In their seven satellite schools, 32 students from each satellite hotel school were chosen and a total of 224 students from all over the island contested. A total of 32 contestants were selected for the ‘Classical Innovative Mocktail’ semi-final and 16 for the ‘Flaring Mocktail’ semi-finals held at Colombo Hotel School Auditorium on 2 May. The finals were held at the Auditorium of the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management. Food & Beverage (F&B) lecturers Chaman Perera and Anura Dias conceptualised, trained and guided the students on modern trends with the assistance of the F&B Faculty of the Hotel School. Encouraged by the success of the Mocktail Competition, the company hopes to roll it out on a grandeur scale next year. The Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel management (SLITHM) is the pioneer institute in Sri Lanka to train young men and women in the hospitality and travel industry. It is managed by Sri Lanka Tourism Board under the Ministry of Economic Development. There are five provincial schools – in Anuradhapura, Bandarawela, Kandy, Koggala and Ratnapura – while the other two are based in Colombo.
