Sri Lanka’s premier spa and lifestyle brand, Spa Ceylon on Tuesday added a new line of skin whitening products to their diverse range, rounding up their products and services to a complete skin care line designed for upmarket positioning.
Along with the new line of products, Spa Ceylon also unveiled their latest service brand ‘WHITE by Spa Ceylon’, bringing in the much popular day-spa concept to Sri Lanka. Located at Ward Place, right next to ODEL, WHITE fuses Sri Lanka’s old and traditional elements with contemporary design and offers customers a luxurious and a revitalising experience.
Speaking to the Daily FT, Spa Ceylon Director Shiwantha Dias stated that the products and services were designed in response to requests from their esteemed clientele for a skincare line. “We did not have any products for the face and only had for body and feet. The new range of products which was launched along with the day spa is an extension to that,” he said.
Stating that skin whitening is the latest beauty trend world over, Dias stated that the trend has caught up with the locals and that the demand for whitening products is on the rise here as well. “Everyone wants to be beautiful and there is a perception that being fair is beautiful. Therefore the demand for products to enhance this feature is trending upwards.”
Having proven their success with traditional recipes tinkered to deliver best results, the Spa Ceylon team has worked efficiently to innovate whitening solutions for customers. Developed on Ayurvedic principles, the new range of products help boost the skin’s natural renewal process, revealing lighter, brighter and more radiant skin.
On a commercial level, having a complete skincare line is essential for Spa Ceylon’s plans to promote the brand internationally and open retail stores in locations such as India and Singapore. The plan is to launch two retail shops in Mumbai in Q2 this year and then to roll it across other metros soon. Having founded a subsidiary company to manage the spa in India, the team is now looking for ideal retail spaces, Dias said. They will also open stores in Singapore and Dubai this year.
The new product range which comes in white packaging and silver/chrome lids has also been designed with a view of giving an upmarket positioning to the products. “We want to market these as premier luxury products. Our goal is to stand alongside the likes of Estee Lauder, Clarins, etc. in the world beauty market.” Spa Ceylon currently exports mainly to Russia, South Africa and Saudi Arabia while smaller quantities are sent to Seychelles and Thailand.
With the total portfolio of products under the brand Spa Ceylon numbering over 300, the goal this year is to expand internationally rather than expand products. “India is a huge consumer market with a very large middle class. All premier brands are rushing to India right now and we are hoping to secure a large percentage of their market with our products,” Dias said. “India is the next growth market for Spa Ceylon.”
The new WHITE by Spa Ceylon which offers a uniquely different experience to its customers with an extensive menu of over 25 carefully designed rituals which include new whitening rituals for face, body, hands and feet, as well as soothing royal rituals for the scalp, feet and body.
