In line with the company’s CSR initiatives that encompass different environmental, social and economic aspects of the country, LB Finance PLC provided forest ranger outfits to Wildlife officers in the Horton Plains National Park.
This initiative addressed the challenge wildlife officers in the area faced due to the fact that visitors to the National Park were unable to distinguish between Wildlife Officers and civilians in the area given that the officers often had to resort to donning civilian clothing. Following initial identification of the challenge, LB Finance carried out a similar initiative in 2013 in the Minneriya Park.
Commenting on the project, LB Finance National Manager Business Development Process Sameera Wanninayake said: “This matter was first brought to our attention when our team visited the Minneriya National Park on another project. We witnessed the struggle that Wildlife officers constantly had to go through to communicate the guidelines and necessary restrictions to visitors as the visitors mistook officers to be civilians. We took the decision to donate forest ranger outfits to ease this communications barrier.”
Since inception of the project, LB Finance has provided over 500 forest ranger outfits to Wildlife Officers Island wide from national parks such as Yala, Wasgamuwa, Ritigala, Haggala, Galway’s Land, Wilpattuwa, Angammedilla and Horagolla.
Wildlife Officer Bimal Hearath expressed his gratitude towards LB Finance stating: “The forest ranger outfits have helped us carry out our obligations with less hassle. In the past, we’ve had to face difficulties in conveying our messages to tourists and local visitors as they tended to mistake us for civilians. I am thankful to LB Finance for their contribution. They have helped us carry out duties well to help us not only safeguard the wellbeing of visitors to the park but also to preserve our natural heritage from undue harm.”
