Roar.lk, Sri Lanka’s new media platform, recently launched its Bengali edition, ‘Roar Bangladesh’. This addition is the first step in the platform’s goal to expand into the South Asian region, providing the same engaging content as it has come to be recognised for in Sri Lanka.
Roar Bangladesh was launched in August this year, with a small team of Bangladesh-based editors and writers. The platform publishes articles related to arts, culture and lifestyle, in the Bengali language. Bangladesh is home to 20 million internet users, a number that continues to grow and is almost four times more than the number of internet users in Sri Lanka. Roar Bangladesh has already amassed over 50,000 followers on its Facebook page, in the six weeks since its launch.
“Over the last year-and-a-half, Roar.lk has grown into a leading, reliable source of information and in-depth analysis on national current affairs, as well as tech and lifestyle content. We identified the absence of a platform that provides engaging lifestyle-focused content in Bangladesh and recognised this as an opportunity to grow beyond Sri Lanka. With its fast growing following, Roar Bangladesh shows promising signs of developing into a go-to content platform in Bangladesh, as well as the potential of a homegrown media platform to become recognised internationally,” says Roar.lk Founder/CEO Mustafa Kassim.
Roar.lk was launched in 2014, as a platform for ‘quintessentially Sri Lankan’ social content. However, in the last year, the platform has seen immense growth, moving from light-hearted content to a more hard-hitting, thought-provoking take on current affairs in its main section. This year, it also launched ‘Roar Tech’, ‘Roar Life’ and ‘Roar Sinhala’, to provide variety in content and reach a broader audience.
