Good Market is celebrating its third birthday on Saturday 5 December with a full day of events and a public after party.
The Saturday Good Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Colombo Racecourse. The after party will be from 6:30 to 9:30 across the street on the Lakpahana stage (14 Reid Avenue, Colombo 7). Lahiru Perera is performing live at 7 p.m. and the annual vendor awards ceremony will start at 7:30.
Entrance is free, but holiday donations for the Attanagalla Elder’s and Children’s Home will be accepted. Cash donations will be used to upgrade toilets and bathing facilities. The following physical donations would be appreciated: sweets, toys, posters, calculators, and second-hand computers for the boys, pill organisers, plastic urinals, plastic sheets, and torches for the elders, fax machine and scanner for the office.
As part of the celebrations, the Good Market will be taking another step towards the goal of becoming a zero waste event. Starting 5 December, there will be no plastic spoons, forks, straws or single-use gloves at the Saturday Good Market. Reusable spoons and forks will be available in the dining areas. Visitors that want to go “zero waste” beyond the Good Market can purchase reusable bags and eco kits with stainless steel straws and silverware.
Also on 5 December, the Good Market will be hosting International Volunteer Day 2015. The Volunteer Fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and United Nations Volunteers (UNV) will be organising a special line up with volunteer voices, dance, music, drama and more from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
