On 3, 4 and 5 April, the Hilton Colombo hosted HSBC Colombo Fashion Week 2013. Dulux, a well-renowned colour company, was present at this prestigious occasion as the Official Colour Forecaster; the made a bold and fashionable statement with the colour of the year which is Indigo.
Each year the Aesthetic Center of Akzo Nobel in the United Kingdom brings together a panel of international creative experts who are from diverse fields such as design, architecture and fashion. These experts draw inspiration from fine arts to technology to identify the colour palettes for the year, which showcases the ‘in’ colours from shades of blue, red, yellow, orange, green, grey and so on. From that colour palette they choose the colour for the year. This year the colour chosen was Indigo; a colour that makes a striking statement but at the same time has time ability to create a sense of tranquility all the while enhancing the environment around it.
This year Dulux ensured that Indigo was the highlight of fashion week. As the official colour forecaster of the event Dulux brought indigo to the forefront with a large Indigo inspired stall with the simple but clear statement ‘Go Indigo’. This encouraged all those at fashion week to incorporate the colour to their wardrobe. Many of the collections featured Indigo this year. One special note was that of well known Sri Lankan designer, Gihan Ediriweera who based his entire collection on Indigo, using it as his inspiration. Dulux went another step further this year by providing Indigo inspired lighting to create excitement for many of the other collections as well.
A key highlight of the entire event was Dulux portraits, where all the participants at the event were able to have their photograph taken, some of whom went to the extent of striking fashionable poses. Each of those who had their photograph taken took home their picture as a memento of this fashionable occasion. In addition to this memento, Dulux posted these pictures on their website allowing the participants of the event to tag themselves on their pictures if they so desired.
It was apparent that style and glamour were in no short supply at this year’s HSBC Colombo fashion week, however, once again Dulux was able to heighten their experience and give the fashion elite of Colombo insight into the colour trends of the year and increase the vibrancy of their daily lives as they boldly requested all to ‘Go Indigo’.
