1927 are a young UK theatrical company based in East London that will be performing in Colombo for the second time this February. The company’s debut show was a revelation at the Edinburgh fringe festival in 2007 where it won a number of awards and sold out its entire run.
It subsequently toured the world, visiting London, Singapore, Sri Lanka and New York, Sydney, Melbourne, Wellington, Germany, Korea, Slovenia and Macau, getting rave reviews and winning further awards and award nominations where it went. ‘The Animals and Children Took to the Street’ is the company’s second show.
Seamlessly synchronising live music, performance and storytelling with stunning films and finely crafted animation, this wickedly twisted show comes to Colombo for two performances and two workshops, following a world premiere at Sydney Opera House, and sell-out critically acclaimed seasons in Sydney, Melbourne, London, Perth and Paris.
The show generates an incredible atmosphere – the audience will get lost in the rich, bizarre, funny world conjured through the animation, storytelling, stylised performances, live piano accompaniment and accompaniment. This is a very slick and stylish show, unique and not easily comparable to any other stage show. It is like a wonderful graphic novel has been brought to life on stage.
As a part of their Sri Lankan tour, 1927 will conduct two workshops at the British Council Colombo on 2 and 3 March as follows:
Storytelling and the Stage
This storytelling workshop led by 1927’s Co-Artistic Director and the Writer and Director of The Animals and Children took to the Streets, Suzanne Andrade, will be comprised of creative writing exercises and is likely to include some acting of writings by participants.
