When the national titleholder of Crown Miss Intercontinental Sri Lanka 2017 is selected on 24 September at the Hilton Colombo, the crown placed on her head will be a customised Rs. 1.2 million masterpiece especially handcrafted by Tiesh for this pageant. The crown, which is identified by its design name, ‘The Spirit of Elegance – Blue Water by Tiesh’ and is aligned to the Sprit of Holy Water, the crown that will be worn by Miss Intercontinental 2017 at the international pageant, ingrains a complete Sri Lankan look and feel within its concept and design.
While Blue Water will be the official crown which will be passed down from this national titleholder to the next, the winner itself is presented a similar crown of similar design worth Rs. 400,000 by Tiesh, the Crown and Jewellery Sponsor, as a gift to keep for herself. Manufactured in rose gold, which has become the tour de force in the fashion capitals of the world and replete with white gems to denote a woman’s purity and strength, Blue Water will literally be the crowning glory for the title holder.
Tiesh Director Ayesh De Fonseka who collated the amazing talents of his design team and goldsmiths to produce this beautiful magnum opus fit for a queen says, “Given that Crown Miss Intercontinental Sri Lanka 2017 is truly an ambassador for this country and in this instance, a voice for disadvantaged and downtrodden women, we wanted to reflect both our beautiful country and the power of a woman in this crown. The design itself has a distinct Sri Lankan feel with an influence of Kandyan heritage, where the familiar Hansa Puttuwa (interlocked swans) are replaced by interlocked peacocks, prominent within the centre of the crown. Our power woman will stand proud and tall as a Sri Lankan woman as does the peacock, and the Sri Lankan Blue Topaz held by the intertwined peacocks speaks of the infinite beauty of the Indian Ocean detailed in the fluid femininity and grace of women.” This pageant also continues to raise the bar in terms of gifts and preps for the international pageant. An official residence will be given to the title holder in the year of her reign besides a gift purse amounting to Rs. 500,000 a complete wardrobe, training, grooming and people and communication skills in preparation for the international pageant and complete support to initiate and implement a social responsibility cause of her choice. In addition, she will be mentored by members of the Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce and have continued training on entrepreneurship and business ethics, social skills and etiquette. Last week, the 20 contestants who will vie for a place in the Top 16 were selected and training will begin this week on the concept of empowering each contestant to optimise not only on their beauty but also on their intellect and acumen. Motivational speakers, fitness gurus, styling, grooming and etiquette specialists, business and entrepreneurial mentors will now begin training the contestants in earnest.
Crown Miss Intercontinental Sri Lanka 2017, highlighting its axiom of ‘Going Beyond Beauty’, will place the spotlight on the Heavena Residential Shelter for Abused, Trafficked and Homeless Women, which is the pageant’s cause.
