Herald in your weekend by arriving at St. Andrew’s Scots Kirk on Friday, 21 September 2012 as the church comes alive with an evening of music to celebrate World Alzheimer’s Day. This year, three choirs will take part in the celebrations. Voice of Praise, directed by Denham Pereira, Vox One, directed by Harin Amirthanathan and Evolution, the choir from the University of Visual and Performing Arts, Kohuwela with Natalie Gooneratne as their conductress.
The evening will commence with the joint choirs Voice of Praise and Vox One coming together to sing the first half of the concert which will focus on the classical side of the Choral music spectrum. They will be singing an assortment of anthems ranging from the 17th century right through to anthems written this year. The joint choirs will be conducted by Harin Amirthanathan and Denham Pereira, the latter who will also accompany them on the organ.
Voice of Praise perhaps needs no introduction as they are the choir affiliated to St.Andrew’s Scots Kirk and heard and loved by those who attend this church. Vox One is a mixed choir from Negombo that performs regularly at events at St. Andrew’s and as well as host their own concerts at Maris Stella College Chapel in Negombo. Evolution is also a mixed choir consisting of 27 choristers from all parts of Sri Lanka. Each of these 27 singers joined the university to pursue a degree in the Western art form of singing. They will be take charge of the second half of the programme, focusing on the lighter side of choral music.
The first half and the second half will be determined by three organ solos demonstrating a range of styles and moods. Entrance is by programme and is Rs. 500 each.
