Registrations have begun for Photomarathon Sri Lanka 2018 to select the best ‘on the spot’ photograph that will take the photographer to compete against regional Photomarathon winners at Photomarathon Asia Championship in Japan 2019.
Hundreds of photo enthusiasts, students and professionals compete each year for this prestigious win which offers an exclusive Canon mentored photo tour and a chance to become the champion at Photomarathon Asia Championship held in Japan.
Photomarathon Sri Lanka which is organised by Metropolitan PhotoHub Ltd. and endorsed by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau is a looked-forward-to event in the local photography calendar. This year’s Photomarathon Sri Lanka will be held on Sunday, 21 October, at the Galadari Hotel from 8 a.m. onwards.
“We are very pleased to have partnered with Metropolitan for the Photomarathon for two years in succession, which has brought about tremendous publicity for Sri Lanka in the region and amongst the regional photography fraternity,” said Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau Chairman Dehan Seneviratne.
Last year, this ‘on the spot’ photography competition was opened up for tourists and travelers, in addition to the open and student categories of the competition.
“This is an open event for anyone who wants to participate. We have two categories. One is the student category and the other is the open category. The only criterion to participate is prior registration and a camera,” said Metropolitan PhotoHub Managing Director Taslim Rahaman.
With the first Photomarathon held in Sri Lanka in 2016, Sri Lanka joined other regional nations that have been annually holding Photomarathon events in their respective countries to nurture tourism and photography. Some of these countries include Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Cambodia, Brunei and Taiwan.
The Canon Photomarathon organised by Metropolitan PhotoHub on behalf of Canon is expected to top a participation of over 400 photographers and more than 800 anticipated photo submissions on the day. The contest will have two parts where contestants will have the opportunity to take photographs and submit them under two themes selected on the day.
“This year, we have made the registration process more convenient, all you need to do is visit the Photomarathon official website,” said Rahaman. (https://photomarathon.canon-asia.com/2018/srilanka/en/home)

Registration fees of the participants will be donated to the Sri Lanka Council of the Blind to develop educational requirements of visually impaired students.
