Flower icon Joan Forbes and her daughter Karen will once again hold their unbeatable Xmas Decor sale on 30 November and 1 December at 24A, De Silva Road, Kalubowila.
The mother and daughter duo who are known for their magical decorative items, return to the exhibition scene after a lapse of many years. “We haven’t held a sale for a long time as both Karen and I have been so busy with work.
“Karen who now heads the business has her hands more than full with orders for weddings and parties, hence we have not been able to hold our traditional Xmas Décor sale for a long time. This year we decided to and it has been both fulfilling and a great pleasure to plan a sale for this very special and magical time of the year,” said Joan.
Joan who is indeed a legend in this country and needs no introduction, her floral arrangements and floral art having adorned the homes of presidents, prime ministers, stately homes, hotels and yachts, celebrated 45 years in the industry.
This remarkable woman who was a mere 19 when she first ventured out as a florist, juggled the duties of a newlywed, a mother and a career woman whilst in her teens; no mean feat indeed and justly deserves the title of ‘Sri Lanka’s Flower Queen’.
Joan’s daughter Karen is now fully involved in the business and works alongside her mother, a testament to the fact that flowers do indeed bloom in Joan’s blood. Xmas décor lovingly crafted by Joan and Karen for both the office as well as home will be available at their sale and all those who are familiar with Joan’s prowess, should head to the sale early in order to avoid disappointment.
Any regrets in her long and illustrious career? “None,” she replies, “And I would do it all over again and again. I love what I do and in fact am already planning for next Xmas!”
