Cotton Collection unveiled the Spring 2019 range by Kaveri, at an exclusive preview on 9 February. Kaveri, designed by India’s imminent designer Kaveri Lalchand, pays homage to all that is linen. In its pursuit to enable an experience that is comfortable and joyful at the same time, Kaveri is a contemporary expression of diverse and eclectic statements that are possible within the world of linen.
Drawing from traditional construction practices and techniques in India, and inspired by the changing faces of the contemporary landscape and diverse personalities of women from varied walks of life, across the globe, Kaveri, is more an experience of all that is linen, than a brand.
Linen, a material that is uncommon in department stores and a modest industry within India, is Kaveri’s textile of preference. The linen used by Kaveri is sourced from Kolkata and is hand woven from yarn imported from Belgium. “Linen is perfect for Sri Lankan weather; it absorbs moisture from the skin and the fabric itself breathes. I feel that good-quality linen, when used more and more, gets stronger and more comfortable” says Kaveri.
Her clothing combines old-school, traditional Indian processes of weaving, looming and dying with new-age, modern interpretations of shape, structure and form. The garments are ‘east meets west’ but, unconventionally, can be worn either as Indian wear, western wear or a mix of both.
The Spring ‘19 Collection of Kaveri emphasises this season’s comeback of pastels and powdered hues. Her staple hand-made embroideries evolve into metallic speckles and stardust with this season’s collection, bringing in a touch of glam.
Kaveri compliments Cotton Collection’s brand ethos of being exclusively cotton and natural, especially in terms of silhouettes, minimalistic motifs as well as the brand’s commitment to celebrating free-spirited women of all sizes. Kaveri’s aesthetics strongly resonates with the discerning Cotton Collection customer. The Kaveri – Cotton Collection alliance is one that goes all the way back to 2014. It indeed has been a pleasure to house this whimsical, vibrant brand at our stores, commented Desiree Karunaratne, Director – Marketing for Odel, the parent company of Cotton ACollection.
