The international award-winning Russian all-female choir Alye Parusa, directed by Elena Volodina, is to take the audience on a Christmas musical celebration by the lake, as Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo debuts the Children’s Christmas Choir Festival on 13 and 14 December from 7.00 p.m to 9.30 p.m at the Pool Terrace. Curated by Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, the event is supported by internationally-renowned music director Soundarie David Rodrigo.
On 13 December, the Russian Choir will be joined by the talented youngsters of Soul Sounds Academy. On 14 December, they will be joined by students of local and international school junior choirs, including Asian International School, Gateway College Colombo, St. Benedict’s College Colombo, Lyceum International School Panadura, and the British School Colombo.
Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo General Manager, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Head of Food and Beverage and John Keells Holdings Vice President Rohan Fernandopulle said the Festival will provide a platform for talented youngsters, both local and international, to come together to celebrate the season through music. “Given the challenges faced this year, it was heartening to have the support of internationally-acclaimed Russian Choir Alye Parusa, local schools and the Soul Sounds Academy in the first-ever children’s festival of this nature,” he said.
“Music provides a world in itself and speaks universally to all, connecting people beyond boundaries, regardless of language, distance or nationality, and this event is a true celebration of Cinnamon’s spirit of hospitality and being a trendsetter,” he further added.
The repertoire of the Alye Parusa choir is mostly of classical character. The group performs choirs from operas, Russian and foreign sacred music as well as ancient songs. The choir also sings folk music of different countries in their original languages, as well as modern compositions in English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Latin, Norwegian and Ukrainian, amongst others.
In addition, the choir is also a laureate of many international competitions and choral festivals, and participates in projects under the aegis of UNESCO, such as ‘The Preservation of the World’s Cultural Heritage.’
In addition, a special Children’s Choral Workshop conducted by the Alye Parusa Children’s Choir will be held on 14 December at the Dukes Court. The first session will take place from 10.00 to 11.00 a.m and the second session from 11.30 a.m to 12.30 p.m.
