Amaya Resorts successfully completes ‘The Great Lake Adventure’ holiday camp

The Great Lake Adventure, the first-ever kids edutainment adventure program in Sri Lanka, organised by Amaya Resorts and Spas, ended with a sea of smiling faces on 31 August.

The Great Lake Adventure was launched on 5 August at Amaya Lake Dambulla, with a series of games and activities held throughout the month. Over 600 foreign and local children had come with their families for their school holidays to Amaya Lake and took part in all the games that were laid out for them. The activities were arranged for children aged between 6 and 18 years but even the toddlers were kept entertained by the Adventure team.

The Great Lake Adventure gave children the opportunity to leave behind their electronic devices and embrace the great outdoors. Various team-building activities were organised such as scavenger hunts, Giant Steps, obstacle relays and tag archery to name a few. Children also had the unique opportunity of learning while playing by creating water rocket launchers – model rockets made of plastic bottles, teaching them about force, pressure and other scientific topics.

The games were organised to build trust between team partners and improve the coordination and social skills of the participants. Beyond Boundaries specialises in team bonding and expeditions for corporates, institutes and families and Amaya Resorts said it was pleased to partner Beyond Boundaries for this initiative.

The team from Science and Technology offered close encounter experiences to all the guests in seeing two of the biggest planets Jupiter (and its moons) and Saturn, the milky way, a nebula and even the Sun with a special filter over the telescope. Foreign guests were overwhelmed by the experience as they said they had not experienced a clear night sky because of the light pollution in their country.

Hayleys Café Pixel, the event’s official photographers, captured all the highlights and provided all participants with photographs of their experiences at The Great Lake Adventure, ensuring that their memories would last.

In addition to the outdoor activities, the Master Chef session brought out the hidden and creative culinary talents of the children. Small children were taught to make pastas, pizza and cupcakes, and even toddlers as young as four were able to cook some delightful treats. Parents got the chance not only to experience their children taking on a culinary challenge but also to enjoy their creation as well.

The participants were full of praise for the event. One remarked that they had enjoyed themselves far more than expected while another added that The Great Lake Adventure was a welcome change from their daily routine. Parents had the opportunity to bond with their children by competing alongside them in group activities such as air rifle shooting, charades, archery, riding All-Terrain Vehicles and also to relax by participating in yoga classes or visiting the spa at Amaya Lake.

Parents and guardians were appreciative of the event, stating they had a chance to unwind while the kids were at play. Many parents were happy to note that their children enjoyed themselves much more than they would have on a traditional holiday.
