For the first time in Sri Lankan history a ‘Virtual Pandol’ will be brought to television screens across the nation by Charana TV (Channel 5 on PEOTV) on Vesak Full Moon Poya Day (26 May) and the following day from 7 p.m. onwards.
Based around the tale of ‘Daddara Jaathakaya’ from the Pansiya Panas Jaathakaya (550 Jaathaka Tales), this pandol features nine frames that portray the story line in vivid colourful imagery. Designed encapsulating the glorious traditional structure and features of a pandol, this virtual television experience brings to life its story in ‘virindu’ and narrative dialogue form to recreate an authentic experience.
As the nationwide Buddhist community celebrates yet another Vesak Day confined to the comforts of their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a new and innovative experience aims to reignite the true joys and religious essence of this most sacred day.
Experience the ‘Virtual Pandol’ featuring the tale of ‘Daddara Jaathakaya’ on Charana TV (Channel 5) on PEOTV and PEOTVGO or on the Charana TV Facebook page live on Vesak Full Moon Poya Day from 7 p.m. onwards.
Charana TV reaches over 500,000 subscribers islandwide on TV, YouTube and other digital platforms. For more on the ‘Virtual Pandol, visit https://www.facebook.com/charanatvofficial/videos/507439360567669
