The 2016 Korean Cultural Festival, an open forum for Korean culture and sports, will be held at the Musaeus College Auditorium on 23 July this year. The event is organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea and in partnership with the Ministry of Sports of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC).
In recent years, Sri Lankans have shown a keen interest in Korea and its culture. They are being influenced by a variety of cultural aspects, especially the Korean TV dramas and K-pop that Sri Lanka’s young generation enjoys immensely. To cultivate this enthusiasm, the embassy has organised the festival, which will bring together Korean cultural elements including K-pop and Taekwondo.
The event has invited talented Sri Lankan vocalists and/or dancers to show their K-pop spirit on stage. Winning team(s) will stand the chance to go to Korea for the final round and compete internationally in September 2016, following a screening process by the Korean counterparts. They will also be able to meet and share the stage with K-pop stars. Meanwhile, a martial performance by Taekwondo demonstration teams will take place in the festival.
“This festival will help Sri Lankans better understand Korean culture, thereby further strengthening the close relationship between Korea and Sri Lanka,” the Embassy officer said. The event is sponsored by Samsung Electronics, Korean Air Lines and LG Abans.
