I am a critic of the way the Government of Sirisena and Wickremesinghe is running the affairs of the State. The promised Yahapalanaya is lost in the rhetoric. However, the recent effort of the Government to lift up the spirits of the people of the city this season by planning activities in the city and lighting up the city was a great effort. My friends visiting the city from England were very impressed with the efforts of the State.
They told me the city looked fabulous and resembled Singapore, which attracts millions of visitors during Christmas. I congratulate the Prime Minister and the Minister of Tourism for their efforts. The lesson for the Government is that the average citizen is interested in action and results rather than statements and promises the Prime Minister is known for.
We can appreciate this effort simply because it can be seen and appreciated, and 90% of those promised by the Government are still to be done. In 2016, the Government needs a proper set of ministers and officials if it is ever going to deliver on its promises.
