CB bond scam: Why should Maithri add to his woes?

I refer to the article on Page 10 of Daily FT of 12 June, which read ‘The impact of Arjuna Mahendran’s action on the Government’ and I hasten to add to it.

As a loyalist of the present coalition Government led by the illustrious President Maithripala Sirisena,

I fully endorse what had been stated in the said article of 12 June.

If Arjuna Mahendran was a man of honour and self-respect, he should graciously resign from his post as Governor of the Central Bank for several reasons.

(a) He is deemed to have relinquished his citizenship in Sri Lanka and is a permanent citizen of Singapore.

(b) As a non-citizen of the country - virtually a foreigner – can he hold a top post such as the Governor of the Central Bank?

(c ) His ‘hanging on ‘ to this prestigious and important position, in spite of the ‘Dark Cloud’ around him, speaks bad for his stature

(c) His being brought into this position is perhaps one of the contributory reasons for the proposed No Confidence Motions against the Prime Minister and Finance Minister

(d) Men of integrity are serving on COPE. If in their investigation they find him guilty, he may be compelled to step down unceremoniously.

So why wait for such an eventuality? Resign honourably and save a situation for the Government. We know that President Maithripala Sirisena is already walking on a tightrope trying to cope with many a problem he is confronted with, so why add to his woes?
