The Taj Samudra Colombo wins Smirnoff Spice Cocktail 2011 trophy at Spice Food Festival

A favourite among the many guests that attended the South African Food Festival at the Taj was a Signature Cocktail prepared by associate M. G. Mithara Ashanthi. This particular cocktail won Ashanthi the Smirnoff Spice Cocktail Trophy presented at the Spice Food Festival.

A talented young Ashanthi presented a lemonade based cocktail made up of Smirnoff Vodka, Pineapple Juice, a dash of lemon, and ground cardamom. Further she garnished the beverage with a skewer consisting of cherries, black currants, mint leaves and blue berries.

The yellow colour of the pineapple juice, white colour of lather formed from pouring in lemonade, black colour of the ground cardamom, the bright red from the cherries, blue colour of blueberries, green from the mint leaves were carefully selected to signify the flag of the great Rainbow Nation – South Africa!

It was a fantastic concept, fine flavour and definitely a little bit of the rainbow nation on your tongue that took you straight to South Africa and back with every sip of its flavourful indulgence.
