The Taj Samudra and the Russian Centre in Colombo partner to bring one of the greatest voices of Russian Soprano, Olga Sosnovskaya, Merited Artiste of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka.

Of the many wonderfully talented women to have graced the stages of opera houses around the world Olga Sosnovskaya is one of the few to have made it to the top of the pyramid with her mastery of skill and technique. Sosnovskaya perfectly unites her dramatically rich and smooth voice with the strong stage presence and power she emits. Witness this great artist at the Taj Samudra when she performs with accompanist Torgeir Solsvik on piano on Friday 29 July.

Native to Russia, Sosnovskaya spent her early years in Ukraine, famed for its rich voices. Her education continued at Republican School of Arts, Syktyvkar and the Petrozavodsk Academic State Conservatory. During her time in theatre she worked with world renowned conductors such as Valery Gergiev whilst her partners on stage included singers such as Anatoly Solovyanenko.

Today in a view of improving the art amongst youth, Sosnovskaya often graces international contests and festivals as a jury member. With her captivating performances and graceful nature Sosnoskaya holds high esteem with composers, critics, and audiences alike.

Over her expansive career Sosnovskaya has developed a very wide repertoire including ‘Wedding of Figaro,’ ‘Traviata’ and ‘Madama Butterfly’ from the Western Opera. Passionate of her own roots Sosnovskaya allures her Russian fans with a wide selection including the ‘Tsar’s Bride’ and ‘The Lady of Spades’.

For those for whom somewhat lighter soprano may appeal her Operetta collection includes ‘Duchess from Chicago’ and ‘Mousetrap’. Her music albums include ‘Arias, Songs, Romances’ and ‘Masterpieces of Opera Classics’ amongst others.

In Sri Lanka, Sosnovskaya will perform with accompanist Torgeir Solsvik who regularly performs as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. Torgeir’s adoration is clearly for classical music whilst his experience spans Sydney to Norway and many other regions of the world. Together, these two artists will craft an unmatchable quality and a perfected evenness of tone to create a unique evening of soprano.

The concert will be held at the Crystal Lower Floor, Taj Samudra on Friday 29 July from 7:30 p.m. onwards. Tickets priced at Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 2,000 are available at the Taj Samudra (Tel. 2446622) and the Russian Centre in Colombo (Tel. 2685429) from Monday 18 July onwards.
